UGA College of Education SetWeb Program Orientations. For two semesters (Fall 2005 & Spring 2006) I helped Mr. D. Scott Smith, OIT Instructional Services Coordinator, conduct four distance learning workshops for the University of Georgia College of Education Special Education SetWeb Program new students. These orientation sessions are the only times the students will be able to meet each other face-to-face. In each technology orientation session we have an attendance of around 50 students who range from ages and technology expertise. These workshops last for around three hours each and include demonstrations and hands-on training of WebCT, HorizonWimba, and LiveText.

Macromedia Dreamweaver Workshops. In Fall 2005, I led two workshops for a 15+ course of graduate students from the College of Education Counseling Psychology program (ECHD 7410) in designing and developing their online counseling interventions using Dreamweaver and FireWorks. These workshops were done in River's Crossing and Aderhold computer labs lasting between 2-3 hours each. I demonstrated how to use Dreamweaver in creating sites, templates, forms, etc.. I also worked extra hours one-on-one with students in providing guidance and principles about web and graphic design and layout.

LiveText Workshops. In Spring 2006, I conducted two LiveText introduction workshops for Dr. Richard Boone's and Dr. Norm Thomson's graduate courses at the Gwinnet University Center and Aderhold Hall. In these workshops I helped students understand the concept of using LiveText as a digital personal storage or backpack for their educational and professional development. I also demonstrated all the steps and procedures they must follow in order to construct their assignments or ePortfolios and share them with their instructor for review and feedback within the LiveText documentation and assessment tool.

Macromedia Captivate Workshop. On Friday November 28th, 2005 from 1:00pm-8:30pm a fellow IT masters student and I lead a Macromedia Captivate workshop for the students of the Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) program. We began the workshop by showing Captivate examples that were done by Macromedia, the UGA College of Education OIT, and some I have done myself.
We then allowed the students to share their project plans and objectives with us as we answered any confusion and concerns the students had with their previous experience in working with Captivate.
In addition to learning all the basic functions of recording and editing a Captivate presentation, the workshop training involved why the use of templates is important, checklists for developing standards for your organization, importing PowerPoint slides, creating simulations, quizzes and surveys, and creating a MenuBuilder project.
Here is the link to our Captivate workshop agenda during the workshop.

Learning Objects, SCORM and LMS SIG (Special Interest Group). I worked with Dr. Lloyd Rieber and Dr. Ikeson Choi in conducting a one-hour seminar for three days to the "edit Studio" students during the Spring 06 semester. This experience was very helpful in my development as a facilitator of an action team-based approach to learning.
Working with my professors gave me confidence in my level of knowledge and understanding in the field of IT and Learning Objects. I was able to better connect areas of learning theory, design, context, and technology standards. Also, because of the Studio being a collaborative type of learning environment with a ListServ, I was able to contribute in providing quality learning objects and SCORM resources even before we began our SIG presentations so that students knew what to expect and how to prepare for the SIG.
Resources from the learning objects SIG can be viewed here
We conducted this workshop again for a group of professors from Tunisia during an eLearning workshop held at the University of Georgia Student Learning Center in March, 2006.

Supporting our Distance Learners Presentation. In March, 2006 I gave a presentation about the development environment used to create support materials for our extended education and face-to-face faculty and students at the College of Education. The session included a discussion of the Teaching with Technology portal's resources, support materials, and usage statistics. Additionally, a brief tutorial on the use of captivate and the flash video encoder was offered to illustrate our support material production processes.
This presentation was part of a two week eLearning workshop for a group of Tunisian professors and delegates who are part of a distance learning partnership initiative with the University of Georgia.
The powerpoint used for this presentation can be viewed here.
